Wings
- Material Used: Aluminum
- Location: Sandler Center for the Performing Arts
In 2011, the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts added a striking addition to its Outdoor Plaza with Wings, a kinetic sculpture designed by renowned New Orleans artist Lin Emery.
Funding for the sculpture was generously donated by Tom and Juanita Felton, lifelong art advocates. “The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts is a definitive part of Virginia Beach, and a building to house all performing arts needs a magnificent sculpture as a focal point,” said Mrs. Felton.
The sculpture stands over 23 feet high with an 18 foot orbit and is crafted out of highly polished aluminum to create a surface that reflects the Sandler Center façade as well as the surrounding architecture, sky and greenery. “The movement will be slow and gentle in a prevailing breeze,” Emery writes.
