Large Scale Interactive Art Installation Rental
This initiative aims to enhance placemaking, foster community engagement, and elevate Virginia Beachʼs profile as a destination for innovative public art.
Artists/companies must carry insurance for the duration of the project, be willing to meet all contractual obligations, adhere to a strict timeline, and are subject to a background check.
Large Scale Interactive Art Installation FAQs
Could you please provide additional details on the potential site locations?
We have a broad number of sites to choose from based on the submissions. We have options from open fields to small lots that are both grassy and paved.
Are you able to say if the sculptures can anchor into the ground with concrete anchors, or if all the works will have to be freestanding?
You could create your own anchors, as long as the site is returned to normal at the conclusion of the project.
Assuming this is invite-only, are you able to provide info about how many folks are invited to submit an RFP?
This is an open call for artists, not invite-only. Anyone who meets the eligibility criteria is welcome to apply.
We just wanted to make sure electricity will be available given the digital nature of the installation. Will it be available?
As described in the RFP, you would need to provide your own power. Currently, that is based on not having a location chosen. However, depending on the project, there may be electricity on site.
Your stated timeline from approval to install seems rather tight. Is there wiggle room, or is that intentional?
The plan is to have the installation up and going sometime between late spring and fall of 2026.
Can we submit more than one proposal?
You are more than welcome to submit multiple proposals. Please follow submission protocols for each one.
Is this project open to international submissions?
Yes, we welcome international submissions.
Could you please send site phots from a few angles so that I can get an idea of the environment. I’d like to see the scale of the space; also, can elements be suspended from buildings, etc.?
As for right now, there are multiple spaces available. Potential sites include options from broad open grassy areas to smaller lots. To our knowledge, there are not any buildings from which to suspend items, but we can explore that further.
Is there any potential for this to turn into a permanent public artwork?
Currently, we are only looking for a temporary installation. There is the possibility for eventual permanent public artwork, but there are several long-term factors to consider.
